Lake County Has a New State Representative!

This past week, Northfield Township Democratic Committeeperson and former District 28 School Board President Tracy Katz Muhl was appointed to the state representative seat for the 57th district formerly held by Jonathan Carroll, who resigned on January 5. Almost entirely in Cook County, the 57th District includes areas such as Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Glencoe, Glenview, Mount Prospect, Northbrook, Northfield, Riverwoods, Wheeling, Wilmette, and Winnetka.
By state law, the appointment of a new representative of the same party as Carroll had to be made within 30 days of the vacancy. Katz Muhl was appointed by the statutory appointment committee made up of Democratic Committeepersons Tracy Katz Muhl (Northfield Township), Mark Walker (Wheeling Township), Dean Maragos (New Trier Township), and Lake County Democrats Chair, Lauren Beth Gash.
Katz Muhl was already the only Democratic candidate for this seat on the March 19 primary election ballot and no one has filed as a Republican for this seat. This interim appointment allows her to serve as the state representative for the 57th District during the legislative session that starts this week, and until the winner of the November 5 general election is sworn in.

The Capitol Fools Comedy Troupe (formerly the Capitol Steps) is back with their hilarious and unique style of political satire. Join the Tenth Dems on February 4, 2:00pm, at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, 9501 Skokie Blvd., Skokie, for an afternoon of laughs mined from the outrageous doings of our elected leaders.
Tickets are only $47 each – less than the box office price – so grab yours before they’re gone! As we have in past years, we’re also planning an early dinner after the show at Jameson’s Charhouse next door, with details to follow.

State’s Attorney’s Gun Violence Prevention Initiative Town Halls (North Chicago and Highland Park)

State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart hosted Town Halls in both North Chicago and Highland Park to listen to the community’s concerns regarding gun violence. These conversations will inform and shape the State’s Attorney’s Comprehensive Violence Reduction Plan. (Another event is planned for January 18 in Libertyville/Vernon Hills. See the Upcoming Events section below for details.)

On Monday, January 15th, a celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 22nd Annual Dreamers’ Breakfast – was presented by Waukegan Township. Lake County Democrats is proud to have been one of the many sponsors of this sold-out event whose theme this year was “Good Trouble” – good trouble in areas of education, criminal justice reform, legislation, equity in education, and more.
