Martin Luther King Jr. Day
January 15, 2024
Observed on the third Monday of January each year, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday in the U.S. marking the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the spiritual leader of nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement.
Beginning Wednesday, events are scheduled to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Click here for details.
Save the Date: Annual Lake County Democrats’ President’s Day Fundraiser, with Jill Wine-Banks
Due to popular demand, we have asked frequent MSNBC Contributor/Legal Analyst Jill Wine-Banks to speak to us again. And she said yes! Jill was so popular last year that the event completely sold out. We hope you will save the date and join us for this very special evening.
When: Monday Evening, February 19, 2024 Where: TBD What: Jill Wine-Banks will be giving us her insights into our national political situation and so much more. A former Watergate prosecutor, Jill is particularly well-equipped to discuss Trump and his legal woes. We’re sure you’ll want to join us. |
Jill Wine-Banks is an MSNBC Legal Analyst, regularly appearing on prime time and daytime shows. A sought-after speaker, Jill appears before professional, political, women’s and business groups, universities and law schools. Jill has also written op-eds for NBC.com, the Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, Politico, and the Huffington Post. She has been featured in documentaries and films, including Academy Award winner Charles Ferguson’s Watergate – Or: How We Learned to Stop an Out of Control President, Robert Redford’s All The President’s Men Revisited, ABC’s 20/20, and Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11.
The U.S. Economy Continues to Grow Under Biden
The December jobs report has been released and the numbers for 2023 show that the economy continues to grow. At the beginning of last year, there were fears of a recession and doubts about the Fed’s prediction of a soft landing as it tried to combat inflation. The inflation rate in the U.S. fell from 6.4% in January to just 3.1% by year end, and new jobs were added every single month. Last month, nonfarm payroll jobs increased by 216,000, and the unemployment rate held at just 3.7%. There’s even more good news: wages increased by 4.1%, outpacing inflation yet again. This report is available to the public every month, at no charge. Click here to read the Bureau of Labor Statistics December report.
Bidenomics is steadily working, giving us an economy that is more equitable and where more people can make a living wage. These are the fruits of a free, democratic country. We need to elect Democrats to make sure this prosperity is shared by all.
