Pro-Choice Crowd Rallies in Buffalo Grove
Lake County residents turned out Tuesday night to show their support for reproductive rights following a bombshell leak about U.S. Supreme Court deliberations.
About 100 pro-choice supporters gathered in Buffalo Grove on Tuesday in response to the news that the U.S. Supreme Court is on the brink of overturning Roe v. Wade.
Speaker after speaker at the Vernon Township Community Services Center in Buffalo Grove pledged to do everything possible to fight efforts to limit reproductive choice. Federal, state, and local representatives as well as leaders of pro-choice organizations addressed the crowd.
Lake County Democratic Chair Lauren Beth Gash emailed this message ahead of the rally: “The same organizing energy we’ve used to defeat anti-abortion legislators and install pro-choice champions over the last decade-plus will be employed to ensure that we elect an Illinois Supreme Court that will protect choice. And pro-choice Democrats up and down the ballot. We will do everything we can to block any effort by the radical fringe in this state from sending us back to the days before Roe. Our rights are on the line, and we will not back down for a single moment.”
Volunteer Spotlight
Lake Dems is grateful for our many active volunteers, including the following:
Joe Bongiovanni started as a volunteer several years ago, and quickly became part of the Democratic leadership team, pitching in on numerous projects and events. He became a Precinct Committeeperson and then, as Grant Township Democratic Chair, Joe has reinvigorated the organization and helped draw in new precinct committeepersons. As a crucial member of our outstanding tech team, Joe helped lead a major update of the Lake Dems website last summer.
