Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering Testifies
Urges Congress to Pass a Federal Assault Weapons Ban
Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering recounted the horror of the July 4th shooting she witnessed as she testified last week before the Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington, D.C. She presented a moving, clear, multifaceted, and emphatic call for a nationwide ban on assault weapons.
“Less than a minute is all it took for a person with an assault weapon to shoot 83 rounds into a crowd, forever changing so many lives,” she told the committee. “Is this freedom?”
We strongly recommend you read Mayor Rotering’s powerful and compelling presentation. Click here for the full text. For some excerpts, click here. (Photo courtesy of Senator Dick Durbin’s Office.)
Join Your Fellow Democrats at the County Fair
Lake Dems needs a few more volunteers to staff our big Lake County Fair booth. Can you spare a couple of hours to work a shift with your fellow Democrats? We’ll be sharing our values with fairgoers, selling buttons, meeting candidates who drop by, and having fun. Sign up here. The fairgrounds is at 1060 East Peterson Road, Grayslake.
Volunteer Spotlight
Lake Dems is grateful for our many active volunteers, including the following:
Ellen Blank is a volunteer who is always ready to help elect Democrats. As elections approach, Ellen signs up new voters as a Deputy Voter Registrar. During elections, she is busy ensuring voter access as part of our Democratic Election Protection Team. Most recently, Ellen joined the Lake Dems crew scrutinizing ballot petitions filed by a Libertarian candidate running against Alexi Giannoulias for Secretary of State. Thank you, Ellen, and all our wonderful volunteers!
