Lake Dems 2nd Annual Shades of Blue Awards Reception
When: Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 2-4pm
Where: Hyatt Regency Deerfield
What: Lake County Democrats will honor Matt Lowry with our Volunteer of the Year Award. Matt is a longtime Precinct Committeeperson and now Chair of Fremont Township Dems who gives so much of himself to ensure that Democrats are elected.
We’ll also recognize other Democrats who are making sure we elect representatives who share our values.
Click here to tell us if you’ll be joining us and/or sponsoring. Tickets are only $40 because we want as many Democrats to join as possible for this inspirational evening. Scholarships are also available. Lakedems.org/ShadesofBlue
It’s National Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, the U.S. recognizes National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. President Biden Supports Unions
President Biden, a steadfast backer of labor unions, has received staunch support from unions throughout his political career and has a long record of standing up for union members. His visit to the picket line in Michigan this week is so important, to show solidarity with those brave workers standing up for fair wages, reasonable work hours, and a safe workplace.
These are the things unions stand for today, just as they did a century ago. That’s why Democrats have stood up for important things, like pay equity. Auto workers make 200 times less than the company CEO. Profits are through the roof while the people who toil to provide the products are vastly underpaid by comparison.
Democrats get it. Joe Biden knows whose side he is on — ours. That’s why he shows up at union events, and that’s why it’s important to vote for Democrats who will keep fighting for fairness in the workplace.
President Biden Establishes First-Ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention
Last week, President Biden announced the establishment of the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention to reduce gun violence, which has ravaged communities across the country, and implement and expand upon key executive and legislative action which has been taken to save lives.
This new office will be overseen by Vice President Harris, who is a key leader in the Biden-Harris Administration’s effort to end our nation’s gun violence epidemic. This Administration has announced dozens of executive actions: to keep especially dangerous weapons and repeat shooters off our streets; hold rogue gun dealers and gun traffickers accountable; provide law enforcement with the tools and resources they need to reduce gun violence; and address the root causes of gun violence.

Volunteer Spotlight
Lake Dems is grateful for our many active volunteers.
Deputy Voter Registrars (DVRs) worked at three College of Lake County campuses (Grayslake Campus, Southlake Campus in Vernon Hills, and Lakeshore Campus in Waukegan) over two days last week to register young voters.
This event was organized by Susan Moore, Lake Dems Voter Registration Co-Chair, and each location was staffed by our trained DVRs. Lake Dems volunteer and CLC student Martin Maillard coordinated the event with the college. Thanks to the many volunteers who helped Lake Dems register voters on National Voter Registration Day.
