Lake Dems were out in large numbers supporting our LGBTQ+ community at the BG Pride and Pinta Pride Project Parade in Buffalo Grove on Sunday. Democrats care about equality. As Republican-controlled states attack the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, Democrats continue to fight for the rights of all.

Lake County Democratic elected officials showing their support at the event included Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Lake County Board Member Marah Altenberg, Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim, Lake County Clerk Anthony Vega, Lake County Sheriff John D. Idleburg, Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart, State Representative Daniel Didech, and State Representative Bob Morgan.

What is the State of Our State?
Democrats Got the Job Done!
Last Sunday Lake Dems welcomed almost all of our ten Democratic State Senators and State Representatives to our State of the State Zoom meeting to celebrate legislative victories in this past session and explain their impacts. Here are just some of the new laws sponsored by our Lake County Democratic legislators.
Preschool Education: Block Grants for Smart Start legislation provides funding so that all 3 and 4-year-olds can attend preschool. Studies show that every $1 invested in early childhood education has a return of $7.
Online Harassment: The Anti-Deep Fake Porn Bill and the Anti-Doxing Bill allow victims of online harassment to sue their trolls in civil court to obtain injunctive relief and/or monetary damages.
Homelessness: House Bill 2831 creates an inter-agency task force for homelessness to improve housing stability, reduce unnecessary institutionalization in Illinois, improve health and human services outcomes for people who experience homelessness, and strengthen the safety nets that contribute to housing stability.
Health Care: A new statewide healthcare exchange increases access to insurance coverage and enhances competition among providers. Additional measures limit the cost of prescription medication (for example, an EpiPen 2-Pak cannot exceed $65), protect the rights of people who seek abortion care and limit the information that can be shared about them, require cultural training for providers, enhance the rights of all people to bodily autonomy, and otherwise ensure dignity and respect for everyone seeking healthcare.
Public Safety: Measures that build upon January’s assault weapons ban include monitoring large public gatherings, and the granting to victims of gun violence the right to sue manufacturers and sellers of guns on the grounds of predatory marketing.
Laws such as these are the reason why Lake Dems works so hard to elect Democrats up and down the ballot. Appreciation and congratulations to our Lake County Democratic legislators for making a difference every day in the lives of Illinois residents.
