Lake Dems Day of Action Saturday, August 10, 2024
Democratic grassroots volunteers have come alive and Lake Dems are no exception! We’re seeing a new burst of energy surrounding campaigns at every level of government. We are not kidding ourselves – Democrats are in for the fight of our lives as we head into the November election – but we’re ready to take action!
Organizers are planning events on Saturday, August 10, 2024, all over Lake County and beyond, including canvasses, phone banks, text banks, postcard-writing events, and even knocking on doors in Wisconsin! We’d love to have you join us! If you’re interested: lakedems.org/dayofaction.
Kamala’s Momentum Continues Breaking Records!
By: Matthew Sprenger
The momentum for Kamala Harris continues! Kamala Harris’s campaign has already generated a remarkable level of support and broken multiple records. One of the enormously popular grassroots Zoom meetings shattered the world record with nearly 300,000 viewers. Campaign fundraising exceeded $200 million in donations in less than one week, many from first-time donors.
Within 48 hours of Kamala Harris entering the race, Vote.org reported they registered over 38,500 new voters. Andrea Hailey, CEO of Vote.org, reported an almost 700% daily increase in new registrations. As of Friday, the number of new voter registrations exceeded 100,000. These figures reflect an excitement among Americans for a strong candidate who has great potential to defeat Donald Trump in November, and this is just the beginning.
Although this shows remarkable promise, it is vitally important for us to continue registering new Democratic voters and making sure they vote. As Kamala Harris says, “When we fight, we win!”
Candidate Corner: Getting to Know Hilary Winiarz (Lake County Board District 2)
As Lake County Board District 2’s Democratic nominee, Hilary’s drive toward civic leadership was inspired at a young age by her father, a workers compensation attorney and judge, who helped injured workers get paid what they deserved.
As an anchor and senior reporter at Illinois State University’s TV-10, Hilary was inspired by the stories she covered locally, at the Illinois Statehouse, and from the national stage. She worked as a radio disc jockey for two radio stations, a television journalist for ABC in Peoria, and a print journalist for the Journal & Topics newspapers in Chicago’s northwest suburbs.
As a mom, Hilary served as an officer on District 95’s grade and middle school PTOs, High School Band Boosters, and High School Parents in Theatre organization. She directed and produced District 95 school theater productions, and led countless school fundraisers. She continues to volunteer as a contributing member of American University parent groups.
Hilary has also applied her passion to charitable causes by planning and executing fundraisers for organizations such as CASA of Lake County, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Multiple Sclerosis, and The American Cancer Society.
Hilary’s tenacity and loyalty have enabled her to successfully build her 30-year career in strategic change, information security, and communications delivery with a large business services company. She’s also done freelance communications for the Tournament of Roses Parade program magazine. Additionally, she’s worked in creative communications, social media management, and content development for an Emmy Award-winning daytime television drama. And she has performed in many stage productions, films, and television shows.
Her career skills and experience as a volunteer will make Hilary a great addition to our Lake County Board. When elected she will bring her passion and skills for listening to people, understanding what they need, why they need it, and how she can help.
