Countywide Early Voting Begins on March 4For Dems to win, we need to turn out in every election. By voting in primaries, Democratic officials know we’ll have their backs on things that Democrats care about, like preserving democracy and reproductive rights. Voting by mail is convenient, time-saving, and guarantees that you’ll have your voice heard, no matter the weather, the lines, or unforeseen circumstances that prevent you from getting to the polls. It’s not too late to apply for a Vote by Mail ballot!! |
You’re Invited: Jan Schakowsky’s 2024 Annual Ultimate Women’s Power Lunch
A Personal Invitation from Lauren Beth Gash, Lake Dems Chair
With right-wing extremists being bolder and bolder about their attacks on reproductive freedom, there’s no time to sit back and relax. We need to come together and work tirelessly this election cycle. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky is a leader on issues that matter to us. So I’m really hoping to see you at Jan’s Annual Women’s Power Lunch on Friday, May 10th.
Jan is one of four Democrats representing Lake County in Congress and was my seatmate in the state legislature many years ago. I just love her and was so honored to have been one of the two co-chairs of her wildly successful 3,000-person Women’s Power Lunch featuring Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
Join Lake Dems and me at our tables for this inspiring event! Use this link to join us. If you’d like to sit with us, put Lake Dems or Lauren Beth Gash in the Specific Table Request field (which pops up after payment) when you register.
Looking forward to seeing so many friends at this wonderful event. Carpools will likely be available. Feel free to reply to info@lakedems.org with “carpool” in the subject line.
Duckworth Joined ABC’s This Week to Discuss Alabama Supreme Court Ruling, Protecting Access to IVF
U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth appeared on This Week Sunday where she talked about the horrible consequences and potential ripple effects that may be felt as a result of the Alabama Supreme Court ruling.
Even the significant source for news on politics and policy in power centers, Politico, took notice and published the following:
DUCKWORTH “DEVASTATED”: Senator Tammy Duckworth called out conservatives whom she suggested are being disingenuous in distancing themselves from the Alabama Supreme Court ruling that frozen embryos in test tubes should be considered children.
“Let’s make it clear: Republicans will say whatever they need to say to try to cover themselves on this, but they’ve been clear and Donald Trump has been the guy leading this effort to eliminate women’s reproductive rights and reproductive choice,” the senator told ABC News This Week co-anchor Martha Raddatz. “And so this is the next step.”
She’s got a bill: Duckworth, an Illinois Democrat, has been pushing legislation for years to protect access to in vitro fertilization.
The response: “It’s been crickets since the Alabama ruling. … Not a single Republican has reached out to me on the bill.”
It’s personal for Duckworth, who has spoken publicly about using in vitro in the pregnancies of her two daughters.
We are so fortunate to be represented in the Senate by such a strong leader. Watch the entire ABC News This Week interview by clicking here.
National Eating Disorders Awareness Week Feb. 26 – March 3, 2024
The Biden administration is taking action to increase access to mental health care and services for people suffering with eating disorders. Federal agencies, such as the National Institute of Mental Health, have been working to improve the detection and prevention of eating disorders and to save lives by developing effective therapies. Funding for the National Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders is expanding access to tools and training for health professionals, families, and community members so they can better detect and treat eating disorders. |
For more information, read President Biden’s Proclamation on National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, 2024.
