Remembering Fallen Heroes on Memorial Day |
|
|
On Memorial Day we remember and pay tribute to those who gave their lives to protect our democracy.
With our democracy under attack from enemies at home and abroad, we must all stand up to protect our freedoms. To truly honor our fallen heroes demands that we take action.
Lake Dems will be participating in Memorial Day parades around the county. See the Events List below for details. Come walk with us and show your Democratic spirit by wearing an official Lake County Democrats t-shirt or hat. Let us know if you need one. |

Lake County Democrats Well-Represented at Campaign Training Boot Camp |

8th Annual Campaign Training Boot Camp at Illinois State University where participants learned about campaigning, organizing, and winning. |
On Saturday, May 18, 2024, the Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association, partnered with the Democratic Party of Illinois and National Democratic Training Committee (NDTC), held their annual Campaign Training Boot Camp for candidates and activists at Illinois State University. The 8th annual Boot Camp assembled participants for free in-person training to provide tools, skills, and insight to help Democratic leaders, volunteers, and candidates become better equipped to begin, continue, or grow their involvement.
In the “Recruiting Candidates” session, Lake County Dems Vice Chair Nancy Shepherdson spoke about how, through the strong and targeted recruitment efforts of party leaders, Lake County has turned from bright red to mostly blue. Lake Dems offers candidate, volunteer, and activist training throughout the year. Watch your email and this newsletter for announcements. |

President Biden Rebuilding Our Economy – Inflation Decreases Slightly in April |
|
|
President Biden is rebuilding our economy after Donald Trump left office with the worst jobs record since the Great Depression. Just look at some of the latest data points:
- Annual inflation down more than 60% since its peak. - Lowest core inflation in three years. - Grocery prices fell over the last three months.
- Wages are up more than prices over the last year and since the pandemic. - More than 15 million jobs were created. - Unemployment below 4% for the longest stretch in over 50 years. But President Biden knows families are still struggling, which is why he is fighting every day to lower costs: - Negotiating lower prescription drug prices.
- Capping insulin at $35/month for seniors. - Saving millions of Americans $800/year on health care. - Lowered child care costs, and cut taxes for hardworking families.
- Taking on price gouging by banning hidden junk fees. - Calling on corporations with record profits to lower prices. |

Lake County Democrats Care About the Environment |
|
|
Lake County Democrats put our values into action. Removing litter from roadsides prevents pollutants from breaking down into harmful microplastics and from entering nearby water bodies and harming wildlife. Last weekend, Grant and Antioch Township Dems and Wauconda Township Dems, including interns, attended Adopt-A-Highway clean-up events. |

Lake Dems is grateful for our many active volunteers. Click here if you're interested in helping. |
It’s important that Democrats are represented at each polling place by Democratic election judges who assist voters with disputes and other issues that may arise. In fact, it’s important both parties are represented so that all voters can have confidence that the election is fair.
This week, a group of volunteers helped us look at our commissioned Democratic election judges to determine if they are Democrats. Thanks to volunteers Val Pape, Colleen Jenn, Charlotte Bank, Kim Rodriguez, Joy Anes, Charisse Bruno, Linda Dawe, Debi Zisook, and interns including Dylaeni Atlee, Steven Jiang, and Kaileen Arnholt for researching about 2500 names in just a few days. |
